Balance.
That’s what Nature is all about; maintaining the balance. Left to herself Nature maintains her own balance, for we would
be incapable of it ourselves. Unfortunately, we do seem more than capable of upsetting the balance. When this
happens, it often falls to heroes of a new generation to undo the mistakes of their elders.
Why then do we have this drive to change? To grow, to explore, to leave the world just a little better than when it was
given to us? Wouldn’t it be better to simply leave well enough alone? The answer again is balance. For just as ‘equal’
does not always mean ‘identical’, so ‘balanced’ does not always mean ‘static’. The greatest and most difficult balancing
act left to us, therefore, is the balance between progress and responsibility.
