Chapter Nineteen
Jozay stood up on his Aunt Leandra, his anger becoming more focused and determined then ever. The sharp noise had
hurt him somehow, his enhanced hearing magnifying the effect.
The pride sisters, the cheetah scouts, even the hyena troops had fallen away. Only Aunt Leandra, Uncle Timusa and
King Kovu remained. Ignoring their very insistent voices, Jozay again spread his wings and took to the air in relentless
pursuit of Hope.
As the young prince twice over gained a little altitude, he was flanked by Majordomo Nefti and Ashayla on either side. He
shared a look with them that said ‘We are going to get these guys. No matter what.’

Wolf scrambled for Penny’s gun. The young woman ripped off her headphones and shouted, “What are you doing?”
“Just keep driving! But get ready to stop!”
“Are you out of your mind?”
“I’m serious! When I tell you to, slam on the brakes!” He loaded the last seven darts into the guns, three in one and four
in the other, and held them together, grip to grip, barrel to barrel. It would take two at once to bring down these bigger
animals. Now, this aiming was going to be something else. He trained the double barrels on the biggest male (wishing for
the fiftieth time the guns had laser sights), but he also kept an eye on his main quarry. If it started to leave, Wolf wanted
to be able to pop up a rifle quickly to drop it.
Carlsbad was an expert marksman, and this would be an easy shot were it not for the motion of the jeep. Wolf’s shot was
true; two darts found their mark in the termite lion’s shoulder. He slowed and stopped but no other animal gave up. At
this rate he could afford no misses. He dissuaded the other male in a similar fashion. For the female he aimed dead at
the fore chest, the quickest route to the heart for the toxin (this would not have worked for the males, their manes were
too thick). The darts actually knocked the lioness out cold before she could stop herself, and she tripped over her own
feet.
Neither of the eagles nor the prize was giving up. Wolf knew he couldn’t fend off two angry eagles, and he needed his
one remaining dart for the trophy. Time to pull something desperate. Wolf reached down to his hip holster and readied
his pistol.
