“Gameplan” Volume 3, January 2008

Dear Friends and Fans,

Okay, real quick before Circle of Life talk… I’m engaged! There, there, ladies, we can still be friends .
So here’s how it went down: I flew from Texas to Orlando to visit my girlfriend for the holidays. She
works at Disney World, so obviously we went there for a day on the 23rd. But this was not just any day
at DW, oh, no. See, there’s this place there called the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, where little girls typically
go to get a Disney Princess costume and their hair and makeup all done up like a little princess before
going to the parks. Well, my Suzie has always wanted to do that (there’s technically no age limit), so we
decided way back in April that for Christmas, she’d break out her princess-esque dress and go as a
princess, and I’d dress up on my own and join her as a prince. So there we were, walking around Disney
World looking like we just got done with prom. It was a blast. At the end of the day we got good spots to
watch the awesome fireworks over the Cinderella Castle like we always do at the parks (our favorite part of
any visit). Just as the grand finale was kicking off, I knelt and asked her to be my Happily Ever After,
ring in hand. After a moment of shock and embarrassment (the thousands of people around us, maybe?),
she said yes, and we’ll be taking our vows in a little over a year back home in Ohio. And this part may be
overkill, but I attached a picture of the ring. (See below)
I’ll pause a moment to let you dab your eyes and we’ll switch gears. Good? Alright.
So anyway, the project continues to do really well. For starters, I’d like to introduce everyone to Paul
Holleger, a classical composer of fearsome power who has joined us since the last issue of Gameplan
(incidentally, you can look at all the back issues at http://skysoldja.com/gameplan/gpmain.html). Paul will
be primarily tackling the score, though he may also be a major contributor to some of the songs,
especially the Medley. Speaking of the songs, I’d like to hear some ideas about putting together an album
of all the original music that’s been inspired by the Circle of Life so far. The aforementioned medley
would be out, since it’s a collab of preexisting Disney songs, but everything else is ours and ours alone.
From our silly songs to our love songs, Legion’s emo rock ballad to Angel by Susanna, I think we could
put together a copyrightable, and sellable, album. I realize making money off your intellectual property
may be a new thing for us, but hey, there’s a first time for everything, right?
Next, let’s talk about Web Comics, and what they mean for us and for the Lion King. Since we’re talking
about a) making our stories into comics on the website and b) mass inviting the archive to some check us
out, I think it’s only natural we invite a few of the high-caliber comics already on the TLK archive to also
be hosted on our site. This will give the artists of those comics more visibility (and more encouragement
to keep writing and illustrating their work), give the fans a central place to find truly awesome LK fan
comics, and after that, give our stories, artwork and media the perfect audience. What do you think? The
two comics that immediately spring to my mind as must-sees are “Nala’s Tears” by our own Alejandra
Villegas (aka Efi Wild) and “Shadows” by FireLemming, although there are probably dozens more.
Lastly, something that may be beyond the scope of Lion King fandom but might be of interest to you
more serious artists, animators, voice actors etc would be other, non-LK webcomics for which we have
conceptual stories. I myself have a storyline for PowerPuff Girls and Avatar comics, as well as the first
edition of my original “Epic” mega-story, an anime-esque adventure currently called “Little Dragon”.
Though a departure from the story-world we all have in common, I fully intend for my “Epic” stories to
be my living and life’s professional achievement. And you all are invited. Why? ‘Cause you just rock that
hard, that’s why.

-Eagerly awaiting feedback and brainstorming sessions, CJ Webster
